THE CLYDE YACHT CLUBS’ ASSOCIATION

C – Series SAIL NUMBERS

Handicaps are only issued to boats with sail numbers which satisfy the Racing Rules of Sailing. This is to avoid mis-identification of boats by Committee Vessels. Manufacturers of new boats often supply sails with numbers representing the production serial number for the type. These are normally not unique, and have proven to be a source of confusion.

The CYCA is authorised by the RYA (in the Prescriptions to the RRS) to issue C-suffix sail numbers. These may optionally by prefixed by “GBR”.

Owners of new boats with a manufacturer’s number on the sails may ask the CYCA Office to try to find a number which includes these digits in order to reduce the cost of renumbering sails.

Numbers are issued on the basis of “next in sequence”, but on payment of an additional fee the office will assign any preferred number which remains available. See the Application Form accessible from the Home Page for the fees currently applicable.
